Frequently asked questions
What does Compex IT do?
We’re a managed IT support company based in Birmingham, with over 23 years of experience helping small and medium-sized businesses across the Midlands. We take care of everything IT-related for your business, from day-to-day support and troubleshooting to cybersecurity, Microsoft 365, business communications, and strategic IT planning. Think of us as your own IT department, without the cost of hiring one.
What areas do you cover?
Our head office is in Birmingham city centre, with a second office in Nuneaton. We provide on-site and remote IT support to businesses across Birmingham, Nuneaton, Solihull, Lichfield, Tamworth, Walsall, and the wider West Midlands and Midlands region. For remote support, we can assist clients anywhere in the UK.
What size businesses do you work with?
We specialise in supporting businesses with between 5 and 100 users. Whether you’re a growing SME or an established company, our support packages are designed to flex to your size and needs. If you’re not sure whether we’re the right fit, just give us a call, we’ll always be honest with you.
What IT services do you NOT provide?
We focus on managed IT support, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365, and business communications. We don’t provide consumer/home IT support, separate email support, hardware repair workshops, or bespoke software development. If something falls outside our scope, we’ll always point you in the right direction
How much does IT support cost?
Our packages start from £30 per user per month. We offer three tiers: security-only from £30, security with remote support from £40, and full security plus on-site support from £50. Pricing is transparent and per user; no hidden costs or confusing extras. You can upgrade or add features at any time.
Do you offer a contract, or can I pay as I go?
We work on managed support contracts rather than on ad hoc work. This is because we believe good IT support means genuinely understanding your business, your team, and your systems and that’s only possible through an ongoing relationship. We don’t do one-off callouts.
What happens if we're not happy?
We offer a six-month “love us or leave us” guarantee. If you and your team aren’t completely happy with our service within the first six months, we’ll refund your entire investment and pay you an additional £1,000 for your trouble. We’re that confident in what we do.
How quickly do you respond to IT issues?
Response times depend on the severity of the issue and your support plan. Our team is available 8am–5pm on weekdays, and clients with urgent issues are prioritised. For many problems, our remote support tools mean we can fix things without even needing to visit.
Can you take over from our existing IT provider?
Absolutely. Switching IT support companies is one of the most common reasons businesses come to us. We handle the transition smoothly, including reviewing your existing systems, taking over documentation, and getting up to speed with your setup, so the changeover is as seamless as possible for your team.
Do you support Microsoft 365?
Yes, it’s one of our core specialisms. We help businesses set up, migrate to, and get the most out of Microsoft 365, including Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange, and security features. Many businesses pay for licences but only use a fraction of what 365 can do. We change that for you so you get all of the benefit
How do you protect businesses from cyber threats?
We use a multi-layered approach to cybersecurity, which includes endpoint protection, email filtering, threat monitoring, and user awareness. We don’t rely on a single tool because cyber threats rarely come from just one direction. We also provide guidance on best practices and can help you work towards Cyber Essentials certification.
What is a managed IT support provider?
A managed IT provider takes ongoing responsibility for your IT systems rather than just fixing things when they break. We proactively monitor, maintain, and improve your IT setup, which means fewer problems, faster fixes when issues arise, and a long-term technology strategy that supports your business goals.
Do you work with specific industries?
We work across a wide range of sectors, including professional services, financial firms, property, construction, healthcare, and more. We even have a dedicated IT support service for financial sector businesses at financial-it.co.uk. Whatever your industry, if IT is critical to your operation, we can help.
